The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is requiring that all ADULTS who work
or volunteer, with or around children/youth/vulnerable adults, within the parish church, school, religious education, Scouts, coaching, etc,
paid as well as volunteers, attend a VIRTUS Training Session to be
more aware of the safety of all of our children and youth.
This adult education component helps prevent child sexual abuse by first making every adult employee and volunteer aware of the issues surrounding child sexual abuse. This includes awareness of the many ways that sexual abuse harms its victims, their families, the parish and the community. The awareness session (VIRTUS) helps adults learn to recognize the warning signs of abuse, and shows them the appropriate way to respond to suspicious behavior.
There are two type of sessions:
“Protecting God’s Children” – the initial 3 hours session – required
“Keeping the Promise Alive” – recertification ONLY session
After your training, please remember to register on
www.virtus.org
and make copies of your certificate to give to ministry leaders.
Keep your original in a safe place.
Re-certification is required every 4 years prior to expiration date.
